Happy New Year! (And new body, new priorities, new clothing, new hormones…)

My Facebook status today: “This is probably the very first year since I was 12 years old that I am not making a NY resolution to lose 10 pounds. Thank you pregnancy!!!! (And thank you stretch pants).”
It was one of those updates that you almost immediately regret typing (and not just because I lied…I think I was actually 11 when I started dieting). I mean, did I really need to inform everyone in the metropolis that is Facebook that I have been a yo-yo dieter since I was a child?

Noodle Soup and fried bread

For Christmas dinner I made a gorgeous ham and beef filets. There was, as always, way too much food so I took the au jus from the beef (I roast it on a bed of onions and peppers) along with the vegetables and froze that, we didn't need gravy and everyone ate their fill. These left over juices mixed with my chicken stock turned into a great noodle soup (yeah I made fresh noodles). It's such a cold night and I wanted something fast before the basketball game so I made the noodle soup and fried some leftover rolls in a little garlic butter. Yum.

PASTA!

OMG! My husband gave me one of those new pasta makers that attach to my kitchen aid stand mixer. I am in heaven! I couldn't make it yesterday, that would have been rude, but today we are having pasta. I have a pot of chili on the stove and the pasta dough is resting right now so after it's nap I will be making fusilli to go with our chili. I can't wait to see how this turns out. If you know me expect some fresh pasta from my house soon.

Downward-Facing Santa Claus

Santa does yoga. Lots and lots of yoga.
How else would it be possible to deliver toys, candy, and unloved socks to millions of children around the world, all while having to entertain his in-laws and keep a jolly grin plastered on his face the entire Christmas season?
I’m telling you – around 5.30 every morning, dear St. Nick is doing sun salutations and pigeon pose. He’s gotta stay sane.

Merry Christmas

Merry Christmas everyone! I can't believe another year is rolling to an end. My Irish Grandma used to say "The older we get the faster life goes...grab the wheel and hang on." My husband and womens group are psyching me for a new adventure that I will start next year. I love an adventure.
Blessings to all of you in 2010!

The Story Spinners

Written by: Lindsay Wood
Erlene Lingle vividly recalls making teacakes with her grandmother. She can almost smell the nutmeg, and remembers how her grandmother would roll out the dough for each cake.

Brain, heal thyself

His wife was no longer the woman he married. He wasn’t leaving her. He still loved her. But he seemed a little lost, a little bewildered, by what had happened to her, to them. She used to laugh easily. It first drew him to her. Her crazy sense of humor complemented his quick and grinning wit. He made her laugh. She made him funnier.
Flattery will get you everywhere

The single biggest annoyance when you travel is not having all your clothes.
